Mahindra Global Recruit 2013

Sector/Company: Mahindra Mergers & Acquisitions

What you are doing now?
In the GSO I worked closely with the Automotive Division and Tech Mahindra on several projects, including market analysis of their respective industries and strategic guidance regarding product development and international expansion. I am now working with the Mergers & Acquisitions division, which is responsible for inorganic strategy and execution for all Mahindra Group entities.

Career Goals: At the moment I intend to continue working in financial services, and hope to ultimately return to Africa and contribute to growth and development there; it's a continent of immense, and largely unrealized, economic potential.

Hobbies: Travel, reading, football, food and Skype.

What were you doing before you joined Mahindra?
Prior to joining Mahindra, my experiences included working with Nestlé's Global Commodity Procurement division in Switzerland, a microfinance institution in Uganda and a Port Security enterprise in Mozambique. At Brown, I studied Economics and worked with the University's Socially Responsible Investment Fund.

Why did you decide to join Mahindra?
I joined Mahindra to gain a unique insight into the most esoteric of the BRIC economies. Being at a diverse, forward-thinking corporation like Mahindra, I have the opportunity to gain exposure to over 18 different industries; few other companies offer recent graduates such a broad array of options and such a high degree of responsibility.

What is it like living and working in India?
Working and living in India challenges one to adapt to the innumerable idiosyncrasies of the local economy and society; life here is like nowhere else on Earth, and therein lies immense opportunity for cultural and intellectual education.

What is your favorite experience/memory in India?

On the Hindu holiday of Gokulashtami, various teams of about 30 men travel around the city trying to form human pyramids to break clay pots that are hung above the street, up to seven stories high. I have no intention of ever taking part, but events like this are what make life in Mumbai such an adventure.

How do you find Mahindra as an employer?
Mahindra is an incredible place to work. The Group places an immense value on the empowerment of its employees, and individuals at every level are encouraged to contribute to group strategy and decision-making. As a result, Group revenues have increased by a factor of 10 over the last decade, and that energy and ambition is reflected every day here in the workplace.
